In Between
A game/experiment, made for the Liminal Jam 2024
There's a bug in the web version which causes flickering, I recommend using the desktop builds

I love this!!! It is indeed super underrated, and I would love if there was an overarching plot!! :D It felt so realll
This game is underrated as HECK. I've played a heck ton of liminal games, so when I tell you that this is the best one I've ever played, I mean it. It is unique and distinct in the sense that it has less of that "familiar" liminal feeling and more of that confused, disoriented, ALONE type of liminal. Uneasy. uncomfortable. cold.
And the mechanics!! oh the mechanics. where do I even START? The mechanics of this game, specifically the "look both ways" thing is so freaking genius. The amount of times the game forces you to ponder instructions while you try in vain to get out of a never ending loop (and eventually think outside the box) is absolutely mind blowing. And the ending? the way the game just.. freezes upon looking up? no outro, no more music, just cold turkey, supports the game's vibe so much and I absolutely adore it. This game specifically plays on the fact that I(we) can get so caught up in trying to go FORWARD (in liminal games, specifically) that we don't really think of it as a puzzle or try and come up with another way around. And in my opinion, that's an extremely under-used and clever way to make a game. especially a liminal one, where puzzles aren't necessarily expected.
It feels like theres some hidden narrative here that I'd love to delve deeper into. I ABSOLUTELY recommend playing this game, AND! to the creator, I recommend making more like these! They appeal to me in a way i'm not quite sure how to put into words. Seriously such a little hidden gem. There are so many little details here that you can find if you search for them, such as the startup button being "run away" instead of like "run game" or something similar. Its so immersive in a way that I can't stop GUSHING over. ANYWAY YAP ASIDE Thank you so much for making this game, I don't think i'll ever stop loving it, and i'll definitely be back.
Thank you for warm words! My goal was to give the feeling that something was off at all times. I’ve written this as an one time project, as I didn’t think anyone would find this enjoyable, but maybe now I’ll try something like this again in the future
the music's scary but I can't tell if there is a goal :(
I could’ve guided better 😅 In the city, there’s an empty storefront that can randomly appear (walk forward and check corners). In the next level climb up and up and drop down. After looking up and down and you’ll land in the next one… down there it’s pretty straightforward.
